The Africa Climate Academy is an intensive in-person training platform designed to transform understanding and discourse around climate change, energy transition, and their implications for Africa. The week-long programme targets policymakers, journalists, civil society leaders, and academics through interactive discussions, expert-led training, and collaborative workshops, helping participants understand the risks of oil dependency, explore opportunities offered by the transition to sustainable energy alternatives, and build capacity to drive more responsive, transparent, and accountable climate policies and initiatives.

Note: Participants are expected to arrive in Accra one day before the programme begins and depart after the closing session.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be African and residing in Africa

• Works as a policymaker, journalist, civil society leader, or academic with a clear interest in climate and energy issues

• At least 3 years of practical experience in the field, with a demonstrated commitment to addressing oil dependency risks and advancing sustainable energy solutions

• Strong interest in exploring sustainable energy alternatives and their potential to reduce fossil fuel dependency across Africa

• Full availability to participate in all programme sessions and activities throughout the week

• Proficiency in English
