The Iris Prize is an annual initiative designed to support and fund young people leading projects that protect or restore nature within their local communities. The prize provides financial support, training, capacity building, and networking opportunities to help young leaders expand the impact of their projects in addressing climate change and environmental degradation. The initiative places particular emphasis on youth-led projects and encourages innovative and sustainable local initiatives.

Duration and Location: The prize is held annually and is open globally; the application process takes place online.

Funding:

  • Seed Prize: $5,000
  • Stem Prize: $10,000
  • Iris Prize: $15,000
  • These awards are granted to projects at different stages of growth.
  • Application Fees: No application fee.
  • Application Process: Applicants must first complete an eligibility quiz to access the application form. Applications are submitted online, and offline submission options may also be available.
  • Language Requirements: Applications are accepted in any language. Forms are available in multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Arabic.


Eligibility Criteria


• Age: 14–24 years old (up to 30 years old for certain prize categories for more advanced projects).

• Project: Must be an idea or active project focused on protecting or restoring nature within a local community.

• Leadership: The project must be youth-led, with young people holding decision-making authority.

• Commitment: Applicants must support the principle of protecting and restoring nature and respect the rights of environmental defenders.

• If legally a minor, a local partner organization is required to manage the grant on the applicant’s behalf.
