The Earthshot Prize is an annual global environmental competition launched by Prince William in 2020 with the goal of encouraging innovative solutions to address climate and environmental challenges over a critical ten-year period. The prize seeks projects and solutions capable of making a global impact in repairing the planet across priority areas such as protecting nature, cleaning the air, restoring oceans, building a waste-free world, and addressing climate change. Winners receive not only substantial financial awards but also a network of support and funding to help scale their solutions globally.

  • Organizer: The Earthshot Prize (under the supervision of Prince William).
  • Duration: Annual, with nominations opening before the end of each year and winners usually announced in the last quarter (November/December).
  • Award Ceremony Location: For 2026, the ceremony will be held in Mumbai, India in November 2026.
  • Funding / Prize: Each of the 5 winners receives £1,000,000 (GBP) to support and expand their project.
  • Application Process: Through official nominations via accredited organizations and the Earthshot Prize website (there is a list of official nominators who select eligible solutions).
  • Evaluation & Interviews: After nomination, projects are reviewed by the Earthshot committee to select 15 finalists, then 5 winners.
  • Participation Type: Individuals, organizations, or companies submit projects/solutions to compete.
Eligibility Criteria

Focuses on solutions that are scalable and impactful. This is not a training or study program. General criteria include:

  • The project or solution must be ready to implement with a clear environmental impact.
  • The project must contribute to one of the five Earthshot priorities:
  1. Protecting and restoring nature
  2. Cleaning the air
  3. Reviving the oceans
  4. Building a waste-free world
  5. Addressing climate change.
  • The project should have potential for growth and global scaling in the coming years.
  • No general restrictions on nationality or age for solutions themselves (the project is the main focus).
