The Covering Climate Now Academy is a free online training program designed for journalists worldwide who want to strengthen their climate journalism skills. The program helps participants improve their understanding of climate science, climate justice, climate diplomacy, and the connections between climate change and issues such as health, migration, and public policy. Through live online sessions, interactive discussions, practical exercises, and peer learning, participants will gain the knowledge and tools needed to produce accurate, impactful, and engaging climate reporting while joining an international network of journalists.

Program duration: September 16 – Decamber 26, 2026.

Includes 12 weekly training sessions and 3 community activities.

Sessions are held every Wednesday at 14:00 UTC.

All sessions are conducted online via Zoom.

The program is completely free of charge.

Only 40 participants will be selected.

Training includes expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, case studies, and practical assignments.

To successfully complete the program, participants must:

  • Attend all 3 mandatory sessions.
  • Attend at least 3 of the 9 elective sessions.
  • Actively participate in discussions and community activities.

Applications must be submitted through the official online application form before the deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

Open to journalists from around the world.

Intended for journalists with beginner to intermediate experience in climate reporting.

Applicants must be able to attend the required online sessions.

Participants are expected to actively engage in discussions and learning activities.

Preference is given to applicants who:

  • Demonstrate strong motivation to participate.
  • Can commit to the full program.
  • Contribute to the diversity of the cohort in terms of geography and journalism backgrounds.
