The Junior Scientists Program (JSP) is offered by the Germany–CGIAR++ Hub for Science & Impact to support early-career researchers in agricultural research and sustainable development. The program enables participants to gain hands-on research experience by working on joint research projects between German universities and CGIAR++ research centers worldwide. It focuses on interdisciplinary training, joint academic supervision, research capacity development, and contributing to global goals such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement while building an international professional network.

  • Duration: 6 months.
  • Location: A CGIAR++ research center or field site in collaboration with a German university or research institution.
  • Joint supervision by a CGIAR++ researcher and a supervisor from a German university.
  • Practical research placement rather than a degree program.
  • Capacity-building workshops, lectures, and interdisciplinary training.
  • Access to alumni networks, annual conferences, and partnership-building activities.

  • Required documents include:
  • Motivation letter.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Research proposal.
  • Host confirmation from a CGIAR++ center.
  • Recommendation letter and supervision confirmation from a German university.
  • Participants are responsible for obtaining a visa, health insurance, and liability insurance before travel.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Open to applicants of all nationalities.
  • Applicants must have a connection with a German university or research institution.
  • Must be enrolled in a Master's program at a German university in agricultural sciences or a related field, or have completed a Master's degree without having started a PhD.
  • Excellent English language proficiency is required.
  • Knowledge of additional languages (such as Arabic, French, or Spanish) may be required or considered an advantage depending on the host location.
  • Must secure hosting approval from a CGIAR++ center.
  • Must obtain supervision approval from a German university or research institution.
  • Must be available for a six-month international research placement.
  • Strong teamwork, independence, adaptability, and intercultural communication skills are expected.
  • Women and applicants from CGIAR partner countries are especially encouraged to apply.
