The Tana Forum Secretariat in partnership with the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) organizes the Annual University Essay Competition to provide a platform for young Africans to contribute to discussions on peace, security, and development across the continent.
The 2026 edition focuses on the theme: "Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation." Participants are invited to submit analytical and policy-oriented essays addressing challenges and opportunities related to Africa's future peace and security landscape.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be African citizens.
- Applicants must be enrolled in recognized higher education institutions in Africa or in the diaspora.
- Applicants may be pursuing:
- BA/BSc
- MA/MSc
- M.Phil
- PhD
- Applicants must be between 15–35 years old.
- Essays must be original work.
- Wikipedia cannot be used as a source.
- AI-generated essays will be disqualified.
- Essays must address one of the official sub-themes.
