This international training programme is organized by the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in collaboration with the ISA–Egypt Joint Training and Research Centre (JTRC). The programme aims to strengthen the scientific and technical capacities of researchers and professionals working in marine sciences and environmental management to support the development, implementation, and review of Regional Environmental Management Plans (REMPs) in international marine areas.

The programme focuses on enhancing participants’ understanding of scientific and environmental aspects related to marine environmental protection, the use of environmental data and analytical tools in environmental planning, and the promotion of regional and international scientific cooperation, particularly among developing countries. The programme also encourages the participation of women and early- to mid-career professionals.

  • Practical training includes the use of analytical tools and techniques related to marine environmental planning.
  • Case studies from the Indian Ocean and other international marine regions.
  • Site visits and practical sessions at Egypt’s National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries.
  • Lectures delivered by international experts and specialists from the International Seabed Authority.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Advanced degree holders are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree holders may apply if they have at least two years of relevant professional experience.

  • Marine Spatial Planning
  • Ocean Governance
  • Knowledge or experience in environmental planning or marine spatial management is desirable.
  • Ability to understand and analyze environmental data.
