- Applicants are required to submit a professional portfolio or website showcasing previous work
- First-time grant recipients will join the National Geographic Explorer Community
- Participants will gain access to training courses, software tools, and additional professional resources
The National Geographic Society, in partnership with The Climate Pledge, is offering an international funding opportunity to support storytellers, photographers, journalists, researchers, and media producers working on impactful storytelling and media projects focused on climate solutions and community resilience. The initiative aims to support compelling human-centered stories that highlight communities and individuals confronting climate change and developing innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
The program seeks to transform storytelling into a powerful tool that inspires policymakers, business leaders, and the public to take meaningful climate action. Supported projects may address a wide range of topics, including clean energy, regenerative agriculture, nature-based solutions, climate migration, public health, social adaptation, and responses to climate-related disasters such as wildfires, floods, hurricanes, and heat waves.
The opportunity is open to both existing National Geographic Explorers and new applicants from around the world.
- Open to applicants from all countries worldwide
- Priority will be given to applicants who:
- Live within the communities featured in their stories
- Have substantial experience working within those communities
- Or maintain established partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders
- Applicants must demonstrate a successful track record in media or storytelling projects
- A professional portfolio or website must be included in the application
- Proposed projects must be clearly focused on climate solutions
- Applications must be submitted in English
- English does not need to be the applicant’s first language
- The applicant must be the primary project leader
- Only one application per person is allowed
- Funding of up to USD 100,000
- Ability to use the funding over a two-year period
- Membership in the global National Geographic Explorer Community
- Access to professional training opportunities and educational resources
