The Young Trade Leaders Programme is an initiative by the World Trade Organization aimed at enhancing young people's understanding of international trade and the role of the WTO. The program targets youth who are interested in global trade and have ideas on how trade can improve lives and protect the environment. Selected participants will join a global network of young leaders, contribute to raising awareness about trade issues, participate in international discussions, and organize activities in their home countries. They will also gain direct exposure to WTO experts and insights into global trade systems.

  • Duration: One year (from July 1, 2026 to June 2027)
  • Location: Global (primarily online) with an in-person component in Geneva, Switzerland
  • Funding: Not fully funded (no salary), but travel support is provided to attend the WTO Public Forum
  • Application Fee: None

  • Interviews for shortlisted candidates in May 2026
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English (French or Spanish is an advantage)

Eligibility Criteria
  • Aged between 18 and 28 at the time of application
  • Must be a citizen of a WTO member country
  • Strong interest in international trade
  • Not currently employed by the WTO and no immediate family connection to the organization
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to engage in dialogue and respect diverse perspectives
  • Commitment to actively participate throughout the programme
